Player News & UpdatesWeek 1 of the 2008 NFL season is in the books, and already the fantasy landscape has shifted, thanks largely to the Bernard Pollard hit that left all-planet quarterback Tom Brady sidelined for the rest of the year. Needless to say, Brady's replacement, Matt Cassel, is a very popular pickup today, but he isn't the only one who can help your team. Here are a handful of players who should be available on the wire and may be worth a look.
.) Matt Cassel is like the high school kid who has just been handed the keys to dad's Porsche. Will he turn into the most popular guy in town? Or will he wrap that high-powered car around the nearest telephone pole? There's simply no way of knowing at this point, but with so much potential, he's a must-add if he's available.
.) With Brady in street clothes, expect the Patriots to take a more conservative approach on offense. Laurence Maroney is still the top option in the ground game, but Sammy Morris will be in the mix as well and should receive plenty of touches. This week, he carried the ball 10 times for 53 yards and a score, and added a healthy five receptions as well. If you lack depth at RB, Morris looks like an excellent addition.
.) It came as no surprise that unheralded tight end Dante Rosario made an impact with Steve Smith out, but his 96 yards, including the game-winning score in the Panthers' upset win over San Diego, exceeded all expectations. More good things should be expected in week 2, and if he keeps this up, Carolina's coaching staff will find a role for him even after Smith's return.
.) Another week, another injured Seahawks receiver. This time, it was Nate Burleson who was sidelined by the injury bug that has acquired a ravenous appetite for Seattle WRs. So who's left? For now, it looks like Courtney Taylor and Logan Payne, both of whom come with slim track records. But hey, somebody's going to have to catch Matt Hasselbeck's passes.
.) Ahmad who? If you drafted Ahmad Bradshaw as a handcuff to Brandon Jacobs, you may wish to grab Derrick Ward instead.
